Former mayor 'censured' by Standards Board

Friday 4pm A FORMER mayor of Market Rasen is to appeal against a West Lindsey Standards Board decision censuring him for failing to comply with the councillors' Code of Conduct.

Guy Grainger, who was Mayor in 2007/8, was said to have failed to declare a personal and prejudicial interest when considering the council's response to an Employment Tribunal claim by the former Town Clerk.

The Board said Mr Grainger, who is no longer a member of the council, had a personal interest as he was the second respondent in the claim and, if that claim was successful, it may have had a financial implication for Mr Grainger personally.

The Board censured Mr Grainger but said they took into account that he was a 'relatively new councillor with limited understanding of the Code'.

They said they did not consider Mr Grainger had acted 'in any way solely for his own well-being or that he deliberately set out to deceive' his fellow councillors.

Mr Grainger, who lives in King Street, told The Mail he was exercising his right to appeal within 28 days of the decision being announced.
