Brigg Council considers '˜new way forward'

Could local decision-making be increased and bureaucracy cut? That was the question from Brigg's town clerk Claire Davis when she reported the findings of the personnel committee to the full town council meeting.

The council is looking for a new way forward in using its resources and money.

“We need to think about what we want for in the delivery of services in Brigg. Do we need extra members of staff, can we spend in a better way?” she asked.

Coun Rob Waltham told the meeting he was fully behind the thinking of the personnel committee.

“There are many things we could do in-house. Can we provide new employment opportunities?”

Coun Carl Sherwood, like Coun Waltham, is also a member of North Lincolnshire Council and said: “We are looking to devolve more responsibility away from North Lincolnshire Council and do more locally with more local management.”

Coun Mike Campion thought the proposals worth looking at, but apologised for taking a slightly cynical view.

“I hope this is not about just cheap labour,” he said. “But despite that, I want to see where this idea leads us.”
