A Caistor man who has dedicated half a century to football has been honoured.

John Fowler received a 50 year award from the English Schools’ Football Association for his work.

The presentation was made at the international match between England and Wales Schoolboys (Under 18) at Lincoln’s Sincil Bank on Saturday, March 2.

“I am very proud and honoured to receive this award,” said Mr Fowler.

After being associated with District and County Football in Somerset, John continued with this interest when he joined Caistor Grammar School staff in 1962.

For many years he ran joint teams with teacher Gordon Rogers and the Yarborough School.

”I became involved in County Football at first taking Caistor School players to district and county matches and as a committee member.

“After becoming vice chairman for many years I was appointed chairman and have held that position for over 25 years.

“This has been a great privilege and my work has been made easier by the efforts of our managers, officials and Lincolnshire schools and colleges.”
