Arrest in 'animal liberation' burglary
Friday 10am A 22 YEAR old man is in custody after being arrested in Worthing in Sussex by police investigating a burglary at Normanby by Spital in January when 129 rabbits were stolen and criminal damage of up to £70,000 caused.
In a joint operation involving police officers from Lincolnshire, Kent and Sussex, a number of premises were searched and the man arrested.
The operation was part of the investigation into a burglary at Highgate Farm, Normanby by Spital, overnight on January 6/7 when the rabbits were stolen and criminal damage was caused to the owner's property, including graffiti on the walls and damage to vehicles. The cost of the damage was estimated at 60,000 to 70,000.
Information about the crime was posted on a number of websites linked to animal liberation activists and the operation on Thursday came after a detailed investigation lasting several months.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Morrison of Lincolnshire Police leading the investigation, said:-
"The enquiries we are carrying out today are very good examples of how the police work together to investigate crimes that transcend force boundaries.
"We are very grateful for all the help we have received from our colleagues in Kent and Sussex. I would like to urge anyone who has information connected to this investigation or the locations we have visited today to contact me directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers."
