A day to remember as Roy collects his MBE
Roy and Carol Schofield at Buckingham Palace
Over the years, Roy has given his time to a number of projects in Caistor.
In 1960, while a student at Caistor Grammar School, he was directly involved in organising and taking part in the famous ‘Walk to Lincoln’ in blizzard conditions in protest at the proposed closure of the school.
After returning to live in the area in the 1998, Roy and Carol set up the ‘Caistor Directory - Guide to the Town’, which now forms part of the website www.caistor.net
Roy was also heavily involved in converting the town’s former magistrates’ court into a Multi-Use Centre, which was opened in 2006.
But the most high-profile project for Roy has been the conversion of the former Methodist Chapel in to Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre.
The well-documented £430,000 BIG Lottery funded project featured on the BBC programme Village SOS.
Roy and Carol led the way in volunteering at the centre and successful encouraged others to get involved.
