£80k boss ‘no longer’ at council
AN £80,000-a-year council boss suspended for alleged gross misconduct has left the authority – and your money has been used to give him a pay-off, the Rasen Mail understands.
West Lindsey District Council’s deputy chief executive Adrian McCormick was suspended on full pay in January while investigators gathered evidence before any potential disciplinary action.
WLDC has confirmed Mr McCormick – who was responsible for the council’s finances – is no longer working for the authority but is keeping tight-lipped about why he has gone. Gross misconduct includes things like abuse or harassment, bullying and corrupt practice.
Council insiders told the Rasen Mail WLDC paid off Mr McCormick – its second most powerful officer – using taxpayers’ money.
Ironically the council only took on Mr McCormick in January last year in an attempt to cut spending and save taxpayers’ money. WLDC went ahead with this move despite opposition from councillors.
Speaking to the Rasen Mail following news of the suspension, Coun Ken Bridger – who was on the panel that interviewed Mr McCormick for the job – said: “We’re all a bit shocked really, we thought he was the best person for the job with the information we had.”
When asked whether or not he thought Mr McCormick was still the best person for the job, Coun Bridger replied: “I think the jury’s out on that one at the moment, until we hear the full outcome really.”
Since the news of Mr McCormick’s suspension hit the headlines, his public profile on business networking site Linked In has been removed.
Before it was made private the Rasen Mail learned Mr McCormick did a leadership and management course at Loughborough College in 2007 to 2008 followed by a post graduate course in management and finance at the University of Lincoln.
In 2010 Mr McCormick spent ten months at Hull City Council working as interim head of improvement and transformation programme director.
While he was deputy chief executive and director of resources at WLDC, Mr McCormick was also director of business transformation at a company called BTC Ltd.
WLDC has not yet decided whether or not to replace Mr McCormick. A spokesman said: “Adrian McCormick no longer works for West Lindsey District Council. I cannot make any further comment.”
The Rasen Mail was told other senior council officers have taken on work normally done by Mr Mc Cormick.
