£500k Recreation Ground redevelopment on the cards

People in the Brigg area are to benefit directly from North Lincolnshire Council’s capital programme over the next five years.

The programme’s investment includes £500,000 to redevelop Brigg Recreation Ground.

The under used and run down facility bears the ravages of time now, but 20 years ago the facility could see three football pitches and three hockey pitches in use every Saturday afternoon.

The tennis courts were also popular, with both hard and grass courts well used through the summer months.

Brigg Town Cricket Club played Lincolnshire League cricket there, but lost their status as the ground deteriorated. Now that could be all set to change after the council announced a redevelopment plan and now has set money aside so the hopes of local people that the facility can be brought up to date, can be realised.

Also in the capital programme is £1.5m set aside for Highways resources, £663,000 for replacement temporary school buildings and £250,00 for skate parks and multiuse games area.

Brigg’s Ancholme Leisure Centre will have major refurbishments carried out, a development confirmed by North Lincolnshire Councillor Nigel Sherwood at the monthly Brigg Town Council meeting.

Wi-Fi hotspots will be created around North Lincolnshire and Community Capital Grants will continue.

The authority also plans to make savings through improving energy management, re-tendering waste collection arrangements, enhancing procurement practice, streamlining back office services and service restructures.
