MARKET Rasen Lions have stepped in to help raise hundreds of pounds for Help for Heroes.
When club members heard nobody had come forward to be the town contact for a national supermarket campaign, they sprang into action.
The Tesco Helping Heroes Campaign was being promoted across 830 of the company’s stores.
“I agreed to register on-line as the store contact,” said Market Rasen Lions secretary Graham Parish, ”and my fellow Lions and friends offered their services as volunteer collectors.”
Armed with a briefing pack and merchandising material from the charity, Graham and his band arranged the finer points with the store’s deputy manager.
And, with the generous support of Market Rasen Tesco customers, the kind-hearted fundraisers collected £924 over the two day event.
Dr Fiona Richards, Corporate Campaign Manager for H4H said: “We were delighted that the Lions could help out in the Market Rasen store, as we had been unable to appoint a store point of contact i.e. someone to look after it.”
It has already been a big year for the Market Rasen Lions, having received their charter on April 30.
The group has also been involved with many local organisations and events.
Later this month, they will once again be offering their carry to car service at the Open Gardens and Summer Market event being held in the town on Saturday, July 30.
