New store will be an asset but we need safe crossing

EDITOR - It has been pointed out to us there could be a danger in crossing the busy High Street in Caistor to visit the new proposed Co-op store.

When we were younger we were all taught to obey the Highway Code but now we belong to the ageing fraternity, the onus must be on finding ways of slowing the traffic down to allow for zimmer frames and slower moving legs.

The huge lorries that come thundering down seem to take great delight in rattling the windows of the Town Hall and the teeth of pensioners, who frequently wait, precariously teetering on the kerb edge pondering the question 'Is there time for us to cross or not?' and when the decision is made, it's too late anyway, the lorries are upon us blowing hats off and skirts up in the back draft.

The new Co-op store is a desperately needed asset for Caistor so we don't have to travel to supermarkets out of town and hope it's the start of bringing Caistor into the 21st century at long last.

But the main priority must be safe crossing points for us oldies, preferably a pelican crossing so we can walk across the road pushing our shopping baskets on wheels and not having to worry in case we get a puncture half way across.
