Letter: Fingers crossed that hard graft by green fingers gets golden reward
EDITOR – I would like to congratulate you on increasing your coverage of Caistor recently.
As a strong community, Caistor has so many events and activities happening each and every week, which is not surprising with more than 60 groups and societies in our energetic town.
This is depicted well in the last few editions of the Market Rasen Mail and it has been a pleasure to read.
On Tuesday we had the honour of welcoming East Midlands in Bloom Chairman Jeff Bates and Secretary Irene Bates with EMiB Judge Alan Fletcher from NE Lincs Council Parks & Open Spaces Manager to Caistor.
They enjoyed a full afternoon of judging one of the cleanest and well kept towns in the East Midlands region.
This was due in no small part to the many volunteers and committee members who so ably assisted Caistor in Bloom with our entry to the East Midlands in Bloom Competition.
We were overwhelmed with the generous nature of residents who cut the grass in areas where there were problems, strimmed, weeded and litterpicked throughout the town in an effort to show case Caistor at its very best.
We are one of six in our category and points will be awarded out of 200.
Last year after only eight weeks, we succeeded in gaining 128 points to achieve Silver Award.
This year the pressure was certainly on to beat that tally to take us up to Silver Gilt, where we need to achieve a score of better than 150-185. Upwards from that lies Gold.
The waiting begins now to hear our result, which will be announced at a ceremony in Northampton Town Hall in September, so fingers crossed...
I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who put in sterling efforts to help out, some at very short notice.
Apologies for not naming individuals, but a separate thank you will be winging its way to all those involved.
We are extremely fortunate to be able to call on members of our community to pull out the stops when needed and it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
