The people of Caistor and surrounding villages turned out to say farewell to their library staff as the facility, housed in the town’s Arts and Heritage Centre, becomes volunteer run.
Between them - Alice Day, Helen Sleight and Kath Perry - have clocked up more than 50 years as librarians and are all well known in the town.
Alice said she is looking forward to her retirement and spending time with Peter, her husband, however there’s no keeping her away from her beloved books as she will be back as a volunteer very soon.
“This is the end of an era and we are very sad to see our library staff go, but are sure they will remain friends of the centre,” said centre manager Stephanie Dale.
“Volunteers from the centre have now taken over the full running of the library and this amazing bunch of people is looking forward to showing off the result of hours of training and learning new skills. Our hope is that this is the start of the sustainable future for our library in Caistor and, thanks to the volunteers, we will continue to still see the library open seven days a week, which is very rare in most cities in the UK let alone a small rural town.”
