THIS weekend Brigg remembers its war dead on Remembrance Sunday.
Uniformed groups and voluntary organisations are set to join the parade alongside members of the Royal British Legion, war veterans and town councillors and officials.
The parade will form up in Station Road at 10.25am in readiness to move off at 10.35am for the service at St John’s Church, Bigby Street, which will start at 10.50am. All are welcome to attend the service at the church.
Afterwards, the parade will re-form in Wrawby Street before proceeding to The Monument for the wreath-laying ceremony and Sounding of Calls, which will take place about 11.45.
A large crowd is expected at the memorial.
The parade will then return to Station Road to dismiss.
There will be a departure this year from the normal arrangements for the children’s Remembrance Service. Always held on the Friday preceding Remembrance Sunday, the date this year is November 11 and so children from the town’s primary schools will hold their Act of Remembrance at 11am, so it falls at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, recalling the Armistice of 1918.
