Improvements at village sport ground

Dykes have been cleared out and verges levelled to enhance Keelby sports ground.

The dyke work was needed to help prevent the tennis courts from flooding - they have been damaged by flood water in the past.

Levelling and seeding the verges will mean they can be easily maintained.

West Lindsey District Council’s councillor for Keelby, Owen Bierley, supported the project by investing £290 from his Councillor Initiative Fund.

He said: “I always like to do anything which will encourage people to use the sports ground.

“It is fulfilling to see the place busy with lots of activities going on.”

Keelby Sports Association chairman Trevor Wright applied for the funding.

He said: “Any extra funding that we receive always helps promote sporting activity and involvement in Keelby and the surrounding areas.”

WLDC provides funding to allow all 37 district councillors an allocation of £4,000 to spend over two years on projects in their ward.

The money can be divided up between several good causes.

In the past year Coun Bierley has used £863 to fund new carpets for the village hall.

And he provided £300 for the Keelby Young Enterprise Project.
