When North Lincolnshire Council moved its library and contents across Brigg three years ago, a piece of research detailing the Australian composer Percy Grainger’s visits to the town in 1905 and a study of its folk songs, should have moved with the library artefacts - sadly it appears to have been lost in transit.

The key part of the research done was about Grainger’s
hearing of the folk song Brigg Fair at the North Lincolnshire Music Festival and how this was to lead to the writing by Delius of his famous rhapsody of the same name.

The problem has been tracing the writer Jane O’Brian, whose permission was needed for her university research ‘English folk Song Collection Volume 1’ to be copied; the
original thesis having been presented to Brigg in 1984 by her.

Jane O’Brian died some years ago and Tom Glossop,
Chairman of the North Lincolnshire Music Festival Society, has confirmed negotiations are continuing to get permission for a reprint from her family.
