RESIDENTS of Market Rasen and Caistor have been getting on board an award-winning service that has made public transport accessible to rural areas.

Lincolnshire County Council’s CallConnect bus service has seen one of its most successful years since it began in 2001 and has been firming up plans to ensure this continues.

Over the past year, passenger journeys for the demand-responsive service in the Rasen and Caistor area saw an increase of more than 11 per cent, from 19,000 to more than 21,000.

Executive member for highways and transportation, Coun William Webb, said: “The CallConnect service plays a crucial role in keeping people connected to public transport throughout the county’s towns and villages.

“It’s so easy to use – people just pick up the phone to book a ride whenever they need one.”

“We’ve extended the opening times and made smarter use of technology.

“There have been improvements to the CallConnect online booking service and people can book by text message too.

“During busy periods, we also operate a callback service.”
