Get in training for sporting Jubilee

A METHODIST tradition is being revived to mark the Queen’s jubilee next year and also to highlight the success of local former MOD sites.

Athletics and fun will be the name of the game as five teams - to represent the five colours on the Olympic flag - from the MOD sites now transformed into thriving residential communities, plus a team from the area’s churches, take part in an It’s a Knockout type event.

Tag rugby, races and fun events will combine for the sporting extravaganza, which will also have a Christian element.

Taking place on Monday, June 4 at Newtoft, the event has had offers of help from the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, including funding.

Now the work begins to organise the event in full.

“We are looking for an enthusiastic person to take on the role of main organiser,” said Methodist Church spokesman Colin Hare.

“We also need people to come on board to help in a variety of ways, both in the run up to the event and on the day itself.

“We anticipate the Newtoft Games will attract quite a big crowd and could even become an annual event.”
