A FORMER long-serving senior teacher at the Vale of Ancholme School in Brigg has died.
George Mouncey came to Brigg in 1964 from the Midlands.
A Cumbrian by birth, he had been brought up in the Penrith area.
Before coming to Brigg, he taught in the Midlands and played football for his local team. An excellent header of the ball, he played central defender.
At the old Westmoor School, he soon involved himself in many activities above and beyond his role as a teacher of history, including school camps in the Lake District, Snowdonia and at Robin Hoods Bay. He also took a great interest in sport, often on the sidelines cheering on the school teams.
Following the creation of Brigg Secondary School in 1972, Mr Mouncey took on a senior role and pioneered a cross-curricular course in humanities.
While teaching in Brigg, he lived in Hibaldstow and was a regular worshipper at the parish church.
He was also a long-serving member of Brigg Youth Club management committee.
Mr Mouncey retired in the early 1980s to live near Penrith, but in more recent years returned to North Lincolnshire to live in Barton-on-Humber.
Mr Mouncey’s funeral service takes place at Barton Parish Church on Monday, December 5, at 1.30pm.
