Fond farewell to organist and choirmaster

ORGANIST and choirmaster Andrew Richley is hanging his gown up after six years at the helm in the Middle Rasen Group of Parishes.

During that time, he has helped to improve the congregational singing within the churches and has also helped to develop the choir from a group of random individuals into a good singing unit.

Under his leadership, the choir has been involved with Carol Services at West Rasen and has also joined with other choirs from the area to lead the singing at deanery services.

“I am particularly pleased that several children have been involved with the choir over the years, including one year when four children took part in a Royal School of Church Music event at Louth,” said Andrew.

His first highlight, however, came even before he had the job, when he was invited to lead a joint choir with the Methodists in rehearsing In Dulci Jubilo for a wedding.

Other highlights have included leading other choir members in Mr Mistoffelees and Skimbleshanks from the musical Cats in the yearly concerts that have been staged at Middle Rasen, together with being one of the Three Little Maids from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado and one of a trio of ‘clergy’ enacting a take off from The Two Ronnies sketch, replacing upper class, lower class and middle class with I am high church; I am low church; and I am middle of the road church!

“We are extremely grateful to Andrew, who, together with his wife Ruth, has given so much to the Church over this time,” said the Rev Charles Patrick.

“We wish Andrew well into the future, and very much hope that he has more time to pursue his many other interests.”

Andrew’s final service will be on Sunday, August 7 at Middle Rasen

Now the church is looking for someone to take on the post vacated by Andrew.

“ If anyone is aware of anybody who might fill this post, we would be very pleased to hear about him or her. Please contact me on 01673 842249,” added the Rev Patrick
