The Mayor and Mayoress of Market Rasen, John Matthews and Jayne Bedford, were the first civilians (non military or contractors) to visit the new Air Ambulance base at RAF Waddington.
The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance is one of the Mayor’s chosen charities and last year the town donated £1,381 to this worthy cause.
They were accompanied on their visit by Coun Margaret Lakin-Whitworth, who is also the volunteer manager of our High Street branch of the charity.
“The old base was not much more than a shed at the edge of the runway, erected when the service was commissioned 21 years ago,” said Mayor Matthews.
“Now the new facility hosts a training and meeting room, modern changing and rest rooms for the crews and a state of the art control centre to co-ordinate the needs of the many emergencies that the ambucopter is called to deal with.”
