Flyers kept it in the family

Ludford village news

FLYING HIGH – A tale of two Lancs attracted 20 visitors to the October meeting of Ludford WI.

RAF pilot Mike Chatterton spoke about how he followed in his father’s footsteps to fly the mighty Lancaster plane.

Mike flew with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for nine years and his father John completed 31 operations as a Lancaster pilot with 44 Squadron during the Second World War and was awarded the DFC.

The Lancaster, of course, has a special link to Ludford through 101 Squadron based in the village, and the evening brought back many special memories to some of the older members of the WI.

The next meeting for the WI is on Wednesday, November 7, when members will be getting creative by learning some garnishing techniques ahead of the festive season.

Visitors and new members are always welcome.
