A FIRST prize of £500 was won by Fiona Cartwright of Horncastle when she entered a grand raffle organised by the Friends of St Mary’s.

It was held to raise funds towards the restoration of the Lady Chapel roof within St Mary’s Church.

The raffle was drawn by the Rev Alyson Buxton at the end of the church’s three-day flower festival on June 12.

Streams of visitors arrived to view the splendid floral creations designed by Horncastle Flower Club.

More than £5,250 was raised for the roof appeal during the very successful fundraising weekend.

The total cost of the restoration project will exceed £90,000 and church supporters are well on the way to their target.

Anyone wishing to make a donation may send a cheque, payable to The Friends of St Mary’s Church, to Friends Treasurer David Platt, c/o Houldens, 19 High Street, Horncastle LN9 5HP
