St John Ambulance HQ saved by supporters

In 1992, dedicated supporters of the St John Ambulance Brigade, Coun Sydney Langford and his wife Margaret, were delighted to help secure the future of the service in Market Rasen.

Less than a year before, the management committee had to decide whether to look for a new base or raise enough money to buy the land in Waterloo Street.

With a price tag of £23,000 and just £2,000 in the bank, it was a tall order, but generosity from the local community saw them net £31,000 for the project.

A lot of the money was raised through the St John Ambulance charity shop in the town’s Market Place.
