It was another successful day at the ‘races’ as Middle Rasen went quackers for the traditional New Year’s Day event.

In ideal weather conditions, the annual duck race, organised by the village’s Cricket and Football Club, went swimmingly with 1,300 yellow ducks making their way down the River Rase, from Parry’s Bridge to the finish line.

Before the race started, club President Alan Pennell thanked the many loyal supporters, both local and from afar, and the sponsors Park View Ltd, Equip, Nigel Appleyard, The Nags Head, Rasen Beds and Appliances, Keith Hooper Plumbing, Gill Bryne and Green Grass Contracting.

The excitement mounted as the ducks ‘swam’ down the river, with the winner crossing the line in a time of 15 minutes, before being put into bags ready for the 2016 race.

First past the post and the winner of £100 was number 893, ‘Hollie’ owned by Hollie Appleyard.

In second place was ‘Rob’ owned by Rob Pitman winning £50 and in third ‘Ellie’ owned by Ellie Carter, winning £25.

The last three ducks in the race, the owners of who won £10 each, were 1014 ‘Trev’ owned by Trevor Williams, 1136 ‘Poppy Duck’ owned by Midge Miller and ‘Tootes’ owned by Mike Janney.

Following the race, everyone made their way to the Nags Head to enjoy some mulled wine, a mince pie, tea or coffee and to see if they had been successful in winning one of the 30 prizes in the raffle.
