The development of a major new sports facility in Brigg, which was put on hold following initial objections from Sport England, could be back on track.

Brigg Town Council has backed the development at the outdated Brigg Recreation Ground which could now see new changing rooms, a full sized floodlit hockey pitch and new tennis courts.

The Wrawby Road site presently has football pitches, mostly used by junior teams, a cricket square presently deemed unsuitable for use by the Lincolnshire Cricket League, outdated changing rooms and car parking, while the tennis courts have not been used for many years.

The Football Association previously offered to fund a 3G artificial football pitch if it replaced the proposed hockey pitch. However, after consultation, the proposal on the table did not include that.

There had also been concerns from Sport England about the loss of a playing field to build tennis courts.

Brigg Hockey Club had consulted with officials from England Hockey and Sport England to press the case for a hockey facility in the town.
