WORLD Book Day was celebrated in style at schools in the area, with pupils and staff donning outfits depicting their favourite characters from their favourite books.
At Osgodby, Snow White was ‘dwarfed’ by her seven helpers, as everyone took on a special character, with a lot of young wizards turning up for lessons too
At Yarborough Academy, as well as some dressing up, at 9.30am students from years seven to ten dropped everything and read for 30 minutes. The year 7 group was joined by head teacher Jeremy Newnham who said: “What a great experience to have time to read with the year 7 students, then have time to talk with my year 7 partner about our books. Even later at break there was a buzz about reading.”
Kindergarten children and staff joined in the fun of dressing up too, as did most of the children at Nettleton primary.
Emma Francis at Nettleton, who dressed as Candyfloss from the book of the same name by Jacqueline Wilson, said: “World Book Day is a great opportunity to read many books and to dress up as our favourite characters.”
