Caistor Primary School plans to expand to offer 13 extra pre-school places following the closure of Whitegate House Kindergarten.

The Rasen Mail first revealed the Kindergarten’s closure in November, when owner Angela Lawrence gained planning approval to knock down the existing wooden building and erect a new house.

Caistor Primary is currently seeking planning permission for its extension, which has yet to be granted. “

We have said to parents that subject to planning permission we hope to offer 13 places in September. We also will launch an out of school club in July,” said headteacher Zoe Hyams.

Angela Lawrence, who is also a district councillor, says closure on July 17 was “a difficult decision to make” after 30 years trading.

Coun Lawrence confirmed her retirement, which she said would give her more time to devote to council duties if re-elected this May, as well as allow more time for her family.

Nearly all the Kindergarten’s children will start school in September and she has been liaising with Caistor Primary, North Kelsey Primary, Rainbow Pre-School and Montessori to help ensure places for the remaining handful. North Kelsey Primary opened an Early Years Class this year.

“I have been very lucky and privileged to work in a business that I love and to have such a loyal and wonderful team,” Angela told the Rasen Mail.
