WHAT do you do with a tree that is past its natural life?

That was the dilemma facing Normanby by Spital Primary School when a tree was deemed dangerous and had to be cut back.

Help was at hand though, in the form of Simon from Xtreme Chainsaw.

Rather than taking the tree down completely, the school asked Simon to create a piece of chainsaw artwork,

And, with the area fenced off, the children were able to watch Simon working his artistry on the tree trunk.

And there was a buzz of excitement as the gnarled tree was transformed into a piece of chainsaw sculpture.

The carving, which took a whole day to complete, depicts the school logo – Norman Bee - as well as the school moto , which is Believing in Education Ensures Success.

Everyone agreed it was ‘bee-utiful’ and thanked Simon for his hard work.
