Pegasus Childcare Centre is celebrating after being rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, just six months after being told it ‘Requires Improvement’.

Although the provision at Osgodby meeting children’s needs and the contribution it makes to their well-being were deemed ‘good’ at the inspection last May, failure to submit forms relating to members of the committee electronically to Ofsted had resulted in the lower grade being applied.

Now, with the forms submitted, the re-inspection has seen the setting graded as Good with aspects of excellence.

“We were very disappointed with the overall grade on the last report as it didn’t reflect the setting or the teaching and learning,” said centre manager Mandy Ashley.

“With this new report, the quality of our setting has been properly recognised on paper.

“We are delighted with this report”.

Mrs Ashley was praised by the inspector for leading a strong and committed staff team.

The teaching was again described as good, with ‘effective assessment and monitoring procedures in place to ensure children are achieving in line with their expected levels of development’.

Staff were also described as good role models, who place a high priority on supporting the children and their families.

The report went on to say: “Staff respect children as individuals and treat them with warmth and kindness” and that children “..show that they feel comfortable and secure in the nursery”.

Partnerships with parents were described as ‘excellent’ and staff were praised for encouraging parents to get involved with their children’s learning by providing home learning ideas.

“We do have a very good parent partnership here,” added Mrs Ashley.

“Parents come in and talk to the children about their jobs or something in their culture to help us celebrate different days, such as St George’s Day, Chinese New Year and Diwali. We will be holding a grannies and mummies day soon, when everyone will be doing some baking.

“We also have very good links with Osgodby Primary School, which helps with the transition to school, and we do a number of events together throughout the year.”
