Hot competition at school bake off

The De Aston Bake Off

Inspired by the myriad of television cookery programmes, Year 13 students at De Aston School held their own bake off.

Over the past few weeks each tutor group held an internal baking competition to decide who should represent them at the final of the bake off event.

And with it being the school’s 150th anniversary year, what better challenge for the final than to bake a cake to celebrate that event.

There was some hot competition in the kitchen between the four groups of finalists as they whisked, baked and decorated to see who would be crowned top tutor group.

Five cakes were presented by the four groups to a panel of eminent judges - led by headteacher Ellenor Beighton and other teachers who had named cake as their specialist subject.

The finished cakes were judged both on taste and decor.

And the bake off winners was the team from 13KMD - Charlotte Wilson; Long Neng (Monique) Tong and Brian Lee.

They were presented with their prizes by Mrs Beighton, which included a gift voucher and signed congratulatory photographs from baking guru Mary Berry.
