Brigg’s Vale Academy history club is getting to grips with local history, looking at subjects not ordinarily found in the curriculum.

They also turned their hand to archaeology, digging test pits on the academy grounds to see what could be found.

The area investigated was half way between the ‘island’ where the Brigg raft was found and the lower lying land - the former marsh - where they found evidence of 18th century slip ware; the oldest piece found was a fragment thought to be from the base of a medieval cooking pot.

Investigations into local history will continue throughout this term.
