The new Principal at The Vale Academy in Brigg is Nicola Williams, who takes over from Gail Young, having been her deputy.
“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the Principal of The Vale Academy,” she said.
“I have really strong ties with the academy having been originally appointed as Head of English in January 1999 and have now worked at the academy for 15 years, so I am in the fortunate position of knowing the academy very well, including the staff, students and many of the parents and carers and those linked with the wider community.
“During this time, I have seen the academy grow and flourish under the leadership of both Gail Young and Geoff Hensman, her predecessor, and I therefore have a strong legacy on which to build.”
And the new year has started very well for The Vale.
Last week, Year 11 students received their GCSE English and Mathematics results from the November examinations and they achieved superb outcomes, with 99 percent of students who were entered achieving A*-C grades in English and Mathematics.
“Many students exceeded their target grades which is a fantastic achievement.
“However, as Principal, I feel it is essential that we do not rest on our laurels and we will strive for equally excellent results this summer.”
And it could be exciting times for the new Principal to oversee.
North Lincolnshire Council is committed, as previously reported, to a new build of the Academy, given the provisions of government funding.
Outline plans have been put on the table by the unitary authority for the new building to be located in Wrawby Road.
Brigg Town Council has been campaigning for many years for a relief road linking Wrawby Road with Atherton Way and providing a new exit out of the Springbank Estate, relieving congestion caused by school traffic and the ‘dead end’ factor at the bottom of Grammar School Road.
It still remains to be seen though how long the time span will be before the bulldozers move in and the first sod is cut to start the building of the new school.
This aspect of the future excited the new Principal: “This really is an exciting time for The Vale, with the prospect of a new build on the horizon.
“We have a talented team of staff and students who are very well supported by parents/ carers, our governors and sponsor (SPTA).
“I feel very privileged to be the Principal of this academy.”
“Our journey is far from over; I know that 2014 will be another excellent year for the academy and I intend to ensure we continue to go from strength to strength.”
