PUPILS from Caistor have won a top prize at a national school media competition.

Caistor Grammar School’s newspaper Caistor Focus won the Best Newspaper Award at the 2012 Shine School Media Awards, beating off competition from schools around the country. The school was also highly commended in the Best Cover category.

And if that was not enough, Caistor Yarborough Academy’s publication The Eaglet was also highly commended in the Best Environmental Strategy category.

The winning schools received their awards at a London ceremony, presented by Daily Mail columnist and online editor Simon Heffer and children’s author Keren David.

Simon praised the standard of entries, suggesting that several were worthy of professional status, and that the enthusiasm of those taking part came through in their work.

Each winning team was presented with a £1,000 cheque and the chance to attend a workshop at the Times Education Supplement’s editorial office.

The awards were created to recognise creative talent and develop literacy, publishing and business skills.
