EDITOR’S COMMENT: Who does this kind of ridiculous research anyway?

We get literally thousands of emails and press releases a week and the team are pretty good at sorting the good from the bad.

But every now and then you get a press release that is such tosh it makes you laugh out loud.

I received one of these recently so thought I’d share it.

It read: “More than one in twenty British workers is sneaking off for a lunchtime tryst with their secret lover according to new research revealed today.”

As someone who takes a lunch break as often as England win the World Cup, this statistic confused and perplexed me, largely because the following thought struck me... who on earth has sat down and thought, hmm, do you know what would be an interesting way to spend our research budget?

FYI, the study also reveals more than a third of us are regularly sneaking off to the pub for a cheeky pint and almost 10 per cent of female workers manage to pop out for a quick beauty treatment.

Well I think you’ll agree, that’s certainly a research budget well spent!

Now do excuse me, I just need to nip out of the office to go get my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure.
