East Barkwith village news

Gardeners’ trip - A day trip to Coventry was a popular addition to the programme of outings arranged by Les Robinson for the Barkwith and District Gardeners’ Association.

First stop was the Coventry Transport Museum in the city centre, the biggest transport museum in the country.

Almost everyone took the opportunity to have a look round before they set off to follow their own interests.

After a day exploring the city, the return journey included a stop at ‘The Elite’ in Lincoln.

Thanks go to Les for all his work with the organisation of what proved to be a very successful day.

The next coach outing - and the last of 2012 - is to ‘Christmas at Castle Howard’, near Selby, Yorkshire, on Thursday, November 29.

All seats are currently booked but for any last minute cancellations, call Les on 01673 857063.

Wooden women - Wilsford Woodcrafts will be demonstrating and displaying their products at the next meeting of East Barkwith WI in the village hall tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30pm.

Visitors are always welcome and there will be a competition for a wooden ornament.

Halloween special - Fun and games were enjoyed by the 38 young children at the Halloween party in the village hall.

The hall had been suitably decorated by organiser Sally Ward and her family - Katie, Rebecca and James.

The children arrived in various forms of fancy dress with Grace Marriott judged the winner for the girls and Drew Marriott for the boys.

Winner of the decorated pumpkins were Emily Marriott in the children’s section and Chrissy Yeates in the adult section.

Admission to the party was £1 with the money being donated to village hall funds.
