East Barkwith

PRIZE BINGO – September’s prize bingo sessions, organised by Yvonne Bryson, raised £40 for village hall funds. The next prize bingo night will take place on Tuesday, October 25, starting at 7.30pm, when there will be useful store cupboard prizes to be won.

HARVEST SUPPER – The annual harvest supper organised by the village church committee will be held this Saturday, October 15, at 7pm, and the meal will be followed by songs.

Tickets at £8 each are available from Anne Stamp or Jane Perkins, who will also give further details.

Proceeds will go to St Mary’s Church general fund, not the Tower Restoration Fund.

OPEN DAY – Panton Plants at The Walled Garden, in Benniworth Road, have an open day and sale on this Sunday, October 16, from 10am-4pm.

Entry is free and anyone interested can go along and perhaps find something to fill up a space in their own plot while enjoying a stroll around the two-acre 18th Century garden, which has been rescued from dereliction and lovingly restored over the past eight years.

WI – Members of the WI were joined by a host of friends for their popular harvest meeting.

Donations of produce were piled on the tables for the charity auction sale and, as always, everyone looked forward to the buffet supper for which East Barkwith is famous.

Business was kept to a minimum and then president Yvonne Bryson introduced Jackie Newborough, who entertained her audience with amusing sketches.

She was thanked by Yvonne, who then invited Jackie to share the duty as auctioneer as they offered the produce and encouraged the bids in the charity auction sale which raised £324.50 for the parish church tower fund.
