GIVING WEEKEND – Visitors sat in the sunshine and chatted as they visited St Mary’s Church during the giving weekend and also enjoyed looking at the historical records on display from the Barkwiths and West Torrington.
There was also the chance to look forward and study the detailed costs and specifications of the work planned on the refurbishing of St Mary’s, including the rebuilding of the tower, while offering contributions towards the £38,000 which needs to be raised to ensure the promised grant from English Heritage to pay for the repairs.
The urgency of the fundraising for the repair work to be implemented cannot be underestimated and its importance has led to the building being placed on the English Heritage ‘at risk’ Register.
People calling in during the opening hours on Saturday and Sunday were welcomed with refreshments and the weekend ended with a Songs of Praise Service, with a selection of hymns chosen by the visitors.
WI – The next meeting of the WI will be held in the village hall tomorrow, Thursday, at 7.30pm, when, in addition to the usual business, resolutions will be discussed and voted on.
Members will then share their experiences at the Lincolnshire North County weekend in Denman College over supper.
