Outgoing captains at Market Rasen Golf Club - Graham Dolan and Ann Todd - made presentations to two forces charities last week.

SSAFA Lincolnshire and the Tealby and Market Rasen Branch of the Royal British Legion each received more then £2,600 from events held at the club.

“With this year being the World War One centenary it seemed the right thing to do,” said Graham.

But for Ann, her choice of the Royal British Legion had a more personal reason.

“My father was president of a British Legion branch for many years, so I wanted to raise money in memory of him,” she said.

The majority of the money was as a result of the Forces Charity Day, sponsored by Westgate Honda in Grimsby, when more than £4,600 was raised for the captains’ chosen charities.

“It is an unbelievable amount,” said Vic Rice from SSAFA Lincolnshire.

“The whole Lincolnshire branch is purely voluntary and donations like this are the real lifeblood to us.”

And thanks were echoed by RBL chairman Martin Hare: “We are very grateful for the donation and were delighted to be part of the fundraising day and raise awareness of the RBL in the community.”
