A DISABLED gymnast is looking forward to performing at a show in America – and it is all thanks to generous people in Market Rasen.
Andrew McLaughlin, 26, from Normanby by Spital had his heart set on performing at this summer’s American Gymfest in Florida with his British Gymnastics Disability Display Team, but providing the funding had been difficult for his parents.
So Andrew, who has Down’s Syndrome, and mum Helen held cake sale, bottle draw, face painting, raffle and bric-a-brac stall at Market Rasen Tesco, and the pair have managed to raise an impressive £771.
Helen said: “It’s absolutely phenomenal – the response we had was amazing and it’s now possible for Andrew to go to America for his show. He’s so excited about it.
“I’d like to say a massive thank you to Tesco for their help and support, to the people who baked cakes and to everyone in Market Rasen who came along and made a donation.”
Andrew – who is Lincoln Gymnastics Club’s only competitive disability gymnast - has won countless medals and travelled all over Europe performing at shows and competitions.
