The manually operated level crossing on Bigby High Road Brigg will be automated in 2016.

The news, which will come as a relief to residents of that road, was delivered by the town’s district councillors at the monthly meeting of Brigg Town Council.

In public question time resident Julian Kidd wanted to know whether ongoing closures of the Bigby High Road level crossing were really necessary.

“I am concerned at yet another notice to close the crossing,” said Mr Kidd, a former town councillor.

“This has become a problem for those of us living on the other side.”

In reply, Coun Rob Waltham told Mr Kidd MP Andrew Percy has taken up the issue of the crossing becoming automated with Network Rail.

Town Clerk Clare Davis told council she understood from previous correspondence automatic gates will replace the existing ones in 2016, which was confirmed by the three North Lincolnshire councillors.
