Warning after opportunistic theft in Brigg
A pensioner had her handbag stolen from a supermarket car park as she unloaded her shopping.
The 81-year-old left the Tesco store in Brigg at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, March 6, and unloaded her shopping into her car.
As she did a man on a bicycle opened the passenger door, stole the woman’s black coloured leather handbag and cycled away in the direction of Lidl.
The woman notified the staff in the store who immediately called the police.
The offender is described as a man aged in his early 20s. He was around 5ft 8ins tall and wearing a dark coloured jacket, and a blue hat.
Local Neighbourhood Sgt Howard Garlick said: “Incidents such as this, in Brigg, are reasonably rare, however there are people who are opportunist thieves and will steal anything they can get their hands on.
“It is for this reason I want to remind people about the importance of not leaving valuables in your vehicle unattended. It only takes a matter of seconds to steal something, which can cause great distress to a victim.”
