Trio in £155,000 university fraud case

Three men accused of a £155,000 banking plot involving the Open University have appeared at City of London Magistrates’ Court.

John Fitzgerald, 30, of 15 Elizabeth Terrace, Brigg, formerly of Waddingham Road, South Kelsey, Matthew King, 29, of St Hybalds Grove, Scawby and Richmond Ekwenye, 42, Dunstable, are charged with conspiring to commit fraud by false representation between August 7 and 25, 2011 by making a false representation that the Open University should change the bank details held for Rapp Media to those of Matthew King, intending to gain £155,617.42.

They are all also charged with conspiring to commit fraud by false representation between March 7 and April 11, last year and acquiring criminal property, namely £155,617.42 between August 7 and 25, 2011.

And all three are charged with acquiring criminal property, namely £214,750, between March 7 and April 11, last year.

Fitzgerald alone is charged with possession of articles for use in fraud at South View, Broughton, on June 26, last year, namely paper containing third party personal details.

The will appear at the Old Bailey on June 20.
