A SUSPECTED sheep thief is being question by police on suspicion of stealing a flock of almost 1,500 animals in an overnight raid on a farm.
The 63-year-old man from Nettleton was arrested earlier today and is being question by officers at Skegness Police Station on suspicion of stealing livestock from a 40-acre field next to Welles Dale Road at Stenigot overnight between September 10 and 11.
A 38-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from Stenigot are also being questioned on suspicion of stealing the 579 ewes and 901 lambs.
It had been thought the sheep had been stolen to be processed through unlicensed abattoirs and the meat sold via non-legitimate outlets but police are no longer pursuing this line of enquiry.
If anyone has any information about the incident they should contact PC Crombie at Louth Police Station on 0300 1110300 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
