Pair arrested for Hemswell speed camera arson

TWO men have been arrested and charged with an arson attack on a speed camera on the A631 in Hemswell.

Ashley Rowlands, 29, and Anthony Luty 22, both from the Doncaster area, were arrested after a lengthy investigation following the arson attack at the Hemswell camera site on October 18, 2011 at around 10.30pm.

Officers have charged Rowlands with arson and conspiracy to commit arson whilst Luty has been charged will conspiracy to commit arson and perverting the course of justice.

Both men have been bailed to appear before Lincoln Magistrates on June 12, 2012.

The Hemswell camera, as with all speed cameras, was placed as a result of the rising injuries occurring on that stretch of road. The year prior to the camera being attacked their were no incidents of injuries occurring at that site – since the camera has been put out of action one person has received slight injuries from a collision that may have been avoided had the camera been working.
