Fined for hygiene offences

A FISH and chip shop operator has been fined a total of £1,150 after admitting three food hygiene offences, Scunthorpe Magistrates’ Court was told.

Charanjit Hundal, of Kirton Lindsey Fish Bar, 18 High Street, Kirton Lindsey, was found to have a dirty wall around potatoes, dirty shelving and a dirty ceiling in the potato preparation area.

The inspection on September 23, 2010, found a window in the fish bar’s potato storeroom was dirty and contained cobwebs and insects and the area around the potato rumbler was dirty and dusty.

Hundal failed to ensure an adequate number of washbasins were available, suitably located and designated for cleaning hands.

It was found the food safety records were incomplete as written monitoring records had not been maintained.

Hundal was also ordered to pay £900 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
