VIDEO: Six children does not stop Samantha being a West Lindsey community hero

She may have six children to take care of, but that does not stop Samantha Coulam finding time to volunteer for a number of community projects.

And, in recognition of her selfless service to others she has now been named West Lindsey ‘citizen of the year’ and ‘Caistor area champion’.

The prizes were presented on Thursday at the West Lindsey community awards evening, held at Marshalls Yard in Gainsborough.

She said:”I’m shocked, I was not expecting to pick up one award, let alone two.”

Samantha has lived in Brookenby for nearly 15 years and began her community work when the village had a problem with getting the grass verges cut.

She then got involved in turning around the failing community centre and said her voluntary work spiraled.

She added: “Brookenby has changed so much, for the better.

“None of it would have been possible without a huge amount of support from West Lindsey District Council and community development worker Anne Cater.

And it is not as if Samantha has plenty of time on her hands when she is not volunteering. She has six children to look after too.

Asked how she manages to fit everything in she said: “When the youngest two go off to playschool my time is filled with community work.

“We’ve just started Brookenby Young Persons Project so the village’s youth have something to do. There’s never a quiet moment.”
