Market Rasen Air Cadets are celebrating after they fought hard to finish a close second in this year’s Trent Wing Field Day Competition.
The event saw them up against cadets from across the county as well as further afield, including Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
And the Market Rasen squadron was only just beaten by the largest unit in the competition, which has more than three times the number of cadets.
“This is a tremendous achievement for the young people involved,” said Squadron Commander, Flt Lt Dave Smith.
Events at the competition included aircraft recognition, model making, first aid, music ensemble, shooting, drill and recruiting.
And one cadet won through once more with his artistic skills.
Sergeant Calum Dowse came top in the modelling competition with his diorama and individual model depicting an aerial battle over the Western Front during The Great War.
A delighted Sgt Dowse was presented with his award by the commanding officer of Trent Wing, Wing Commander Wright.
Now, along with the aircraft recognition team, he will be taking his models forward to represent Trent Wing in the Regional competition, at RAF Halton, later this year.
And at this event, the team will be facing competition with entries from across central and eastern England.
