The resurfacing work is part of a Lincolnshire County Council project to enhance seven of the county’s most used roads.

The A46/A158 Nettleham Road roundabout in Lincoln has already been completed - and work on the A631 began on Tuesday morning, May 3.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and drive with extra care and reduced speed over newly treated surfaces until all road markings have been replaced.

The council’s contractor is now working on the section from Prospect Place to Legsby Road.

This will be under temporary two-way traffic lights, between the hours of 9am and 3pm, from May 9 to 13.

Following this work the contractor will change to night time working, between 8pm and 6am, with a road closure in place.

This stage will see resurfacing on the Willingham Road crossroads with Jameson Bridge Street, Oxford Street and Queen Street, and the A631 all the way along to Dear Street.

The works will be undertaken on Sunday to Thursday nights.

And the county council estimates the work will be complete by May 27.

During the works, diversion routes will be in place.

Lincolnshire County Council executive member for highways, Coun Richard Davies said: “We continuously monitor the condition of our county’s roads and make sure they are in a good condition for motorists to use.

“These are all busy routes with high traffic volumes and have deteriorated through wear and tear.

“We will completely remove the top layer of the roads and lay down new surfaces which will last for at least the next 20 years.

“There are more roads in Lincolnshire that we need to improve with this technique so we are improving those most in need first, before starting another programme later this year.”

New road surfaces will also be laid on the B1273 Riseholme Road, Nettleham Road and Avenue crossroads in Lincoln, the A158 Partney roundabout in Spilsby and the A158 Burgh Le Marsh roundabout in Spilsby. Subject to weather, work will be complete by August.
