A delighted Tom told the Rasen Mail: “The judges said I won because I epitomise the motto of the YFC - Fun, Learning and Achievement.

“It was also due to me turning my club, Brigg YFC, around from 12 to 46 members.

“We have also won many competitions and trophies, including the decorated trailer parade at Lincolnshire Show, as well as raising over £1,000 for charity in my time as a member.”

The 26-year-old mixed arable farmer picked up his award at the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs convention weekend in Blackpool.

To get there, Tom won the Lincolnshire round and then the East Midlands round.

At the final, he was interviewed by a panel of three judges and then had the pressure of an on stage interview in front of hundreds of people between the NFYFC drama finals.

He also had to submit a synopsis form detailing all the work he had done in his 10 years as a member.

Ton, who is also the vice-chairman of the Lincolnshire FYFC, is now looking forward to continuing to promote the Young Farmers organisation.

“I want to spread the message of Young Farmers and talk about all of the good work we do,” he said.
