Middle Rasen Primary schoolgirls Claire Patrick and Isabel Jones are set to raise around £1,000 for Sport Relief after their super cycle challenge.

Last year, the girls raised £300 for Sport Relief and they wanted to beat that target.

And early indications show they have smashed it with the amount pledged.

Nine-year-old Claire and 10-year-old Isabel cycled the 42 miles from Newark to Middle Rasen and described their venture as a ‘great day’.

“On the whole the weather was kind to us,” said Isabel.

“But three miles from home we went through a heavy downpour, thunder and lightning, a hailstorm, and speeding motorists soaking us as they drove through huge puddles.”

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all who donated in support of our challenge, especially our mums who cycled with us,” added Claire. “We feel quite humbled by your kindness.

“We received a fantastic welcome in Middle Rasen with so many people turning out and fabulous refreshments provided.”

And there is still time to make a donation for the girls’ efforts by visiting http://my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/Isabel-Claire
