They were welcomed by bowls club chairman Kate Wright, who is also a member of East Barkwith WI, and eight of the more active members chose to play a game with the Bowls Club, who arranged mixed teams. The WI members were given tuition as they went along by their more expert team members, with the Reds and the Blues teams in competition.

The game ended in a draw and supper was then enjoyed.

Sponsored swim - The grand total of £1,569.10 was raised at the successful sponsored swim and credit is due to all who took part and those who sponsored them.

The committee extend thanks to the swimmers who covered a total of 23.44 miles, the distance to Lincoln Cathedral and back, and their sponsors for their generosity.

The funds are going towards the re-tiling of the bottom of the pool.

They have since had a generous boost of a further £2,000 made in two donations, each of £1,000, which has been very much appreciated.

The Swimming Pool Committee is delighted with the funds raised to date and are hoping their target will be reached by the end of the year so work can be undertaken during the Christmas period pool closure.

Mystery trip - Lawrence, who proved to be a very helpful and cooperative driver, collected members and friends of the WI to take them on their annual Mystery Tour.

The route, along rural roads, took the travellers in the Market Rasen direction via Langworth, then towards Louth and then turned towards North Thoresby.

However, their final destination was The Becks, at Mablethorpe, where they found a delicious carvery meal waiting for them.

While some were happy to sit back and relax afterwards, others took the opportunity to have a walk out to see the sea, before climbing aboard the coach for their journey home.

The usual raffle was run on the bus and the £60 raised was presented to Wragby WI member Vera Smart and her husband Alan for the Cancer Charity Support Group they are members of.

Hub update - The Wragby Community Group, a team of volunteers who manage and staff The Hub on Millbrook Business Park, has been given funding to start up a scheme to help those living in Wragby without transport to get to the premises to change their library books.

Further details are available from Norma on 0796 1388860, or call The Hub on 01673 857989.

Funds have also been secured to start crochet and sewing classes and, following a drop-in crochet session held in June, where the turn out was disappointing, they are hoping to generate more interest when they start a course in September.

A demonstration of what can be achieved with little or no sewing skills will also be given on September 3 between 10.30am and 1pm.

Details on both courses from Barbara Bartlett on 01673 857480.
